Saturday, May 13, 2006, saw the opening of the new disc golf course at the newly renovated Prospect Park in Moline Illinois. The disc golf course is just one part of the renovations taking place at the park, and was originally planned to open along with the park itself. Mother nature had other plans however, and forced the city to reschedule the remainder of the parks Re-Dedication ceremonies for later this summer. Rain and wet conditions couldn't keep the local disc golfers from taking part in the first official rounds of disc golf on the brand new course however. As part of the opening ceremonies, members of
the local Quad City Disc Golf Club played along side players who were new to the sport and helped show off the new course. Commemorative discs with the Prospect park logo along with discs provided by the QCDGC and Pat Baumunk, a representative for Gateway discs, were given away to players to highlight the opening of the course. The City OF Moline was very proactive in designing and installing the latest course in the Quad Cities area. The city recognized the growth of the sport of disc golf and with the help of the QCDG club and many other volunteers and city personnel, designed and put in the ground a course that should prove challenging and exciting for players of all skill levels. The course uses the terrain of the park wonderfully, and utilizes the lake as its' centerpiece. If you haven't had the opportunity to play this great new course yet, get out there and enjoy the sport of disc golf and yet one more great new course here in the Quad Cities!
